
Thomas A. Barkewitz
Tom Barkewitz is Of Counsel to the firm. He has represented a wide variety of institutional and individual clients in real estate sales and acquisitions, financing and commercial leasing of projects in Washington and throughout the United States. He has also advised individuals and companies in the formation and structuring of business entities and in business restructuring and workouts. Tom practiced for over 30 years, beginning with the firm of Perkins Coie in 1988. Before joining Alston, Courtnage & Bassetti LLP, he was Corporate Counsel for a Seattle based real estate holdings company, where he negotiated and closed the sale of a nationwide portfolio of retail, office and health care facilities valued at more than $650,000,000. After joining Alston, Courtnage & Bassetti LLP in 1999, Tom worked with clients in the purchase and sale, leasing and financing of high-rise office buildings, suburban industrial and office parks, apartment and mixed-use projects, retail shopping centers, complex public/private town center projects, medical centers, assisted living facilities and skilled nursing centers, with numerous transactions exceeding $100,000,000.
Tom has been a frequent speaker at industry and bar association seminars on real estate topics. He also acted as Associate Editor of the Washington Real Property Deskbook, and is the author of several chapters in that and other Washington real estate publications.
Tom graduated summa cum laude from Niagara University and received his J.D. with honors from Rutgers University School of Law, where he was a Philip J. Levin scholar. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association (Member of the Real Property and Corporate Counsel Sections) and the King County Bar Association.
Since 2005, Tom has been named annually as a “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers magazine. He has been given the highest possible rating (AV) by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, and has been named as one of the leading real estate attorneys in Washington state by Chambers USA.
